Each-way is two bets: one to win at the full price, one to place at a fraction of the win odds. The place part is where the value usually hides, in big fields with extra places. Figures are profit after the full outlay; Rule 4 deductions and dead heats are not applied.
How it works
An each-way bet is two bets of the same stake. The win part pays at the full odds. The place part pays at a fraction of the win odds, 1/4 or 1/5 of the fractional price, if the selection finishes in the places. At 10/1 with 1/5 odds the place part pays 2/1, so 10 each-way (20 in total) returns 140 for a win and 30 for a place.
Place terms depend on the race: how many runners, handicap or not, and whether the bookmaker is paying extra places. Always check the terms shown with the price. Rule 4 deductions for non-runners and dead-heat rules are not included here.
