How a signal is found

01Fair price. Bookmaker prices every 15 minutes, margins removed, the sharper books weighted more. One probability per runner.
02Exchange check. Betfair back and lay prices polled every couple of minutes, with the money available at each.
03Edge after commission. Back: price × fair probability − 1, less commission on the win. Lay: the reverse, on the liability.
04Closing price captured. At the off we record the price. Beating it consistently is the only proof the edge was real.

Skipped on purpose: in-play markets, handicaps, and anything with too little money at the price. Stakes use the Kelly calculator's maths at a quarter.

Read before you click

An edge on paper assumes the model is right and that the price is still there when you get to it. Prices move; check the market yourself. This is arithmetic, not advice. 18+.

Exchange prices are before commission; the edge here has it taken off. Laying means you risk the liability, stake × (price − 1).
